1960s and 1970s observations with two videos
Growing up in the 1960's, with family members as diverse as any, life was very...different. In every aspect, when compared to today, other than the love of family - the love of God/Jesus - etc this world is nothing like it was when I was growing up. And yes, in my opinion, other than social issues, it was a better place to grow up.
Having had my own children, and grandchildren now each I love, I pray for the world they are living in and the world ahead. I want them to be happy. To be healthy. To work hard. To find someone who makes them happy in all the right ways. To be humble. To try. And try again. To know they are loved.
Even though things were different back then here are some things associated with this time period that would be successful/wanted today;
GI Joe
Music on albums, 45's, 33's, and even 78's
TV shows like; Mash, Laugh In, Ed Sullivan, Andy Griffith, and more
Portable music radios with earphones
The clothes
Some beautiful cars such as; Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Lincoln and Cadillac
Books
Newspapers
Barbie
Rayban sunglasses
Magazines
Sports
Just like today we never knew what tomorrow would bring forth but we did so much outside activities, as compared to today's youth overall, we grew up with better immune systems. We were strong. We were in shape. We could run, or ride out bikes including the 10 speeds that came out in the 1970's, all day.
We also benefited from home cooking and YES I can cook - do cook - and always will cook. And I can make several homemade deserts that have always been a hit. There was much more of the "lets eat dinner together" and/or "we are going to church", etc.
In today's media far too many things are over represented trying to shove down our throats their social beliefs and/or lack of. It is sad as instead of the children growing up to be themselves they are under attack, via screens, pertaining to their morals - geographical location - skin color - etc.
The children of the 1960's parents had gone through World War II where so many Americans had been killed. Where women had worked in factories and did every job that men had previously done but now were in the war. These women were not creampuffs. They were independent. They were strong. They held the family, and this country, together. Don't believe the things you read about that have adverse slants towards these role models.
If I could go back in time, during this time period. there are a few things I would change but overall I had satisfaction in; school, work, church, activities, love of family and God, myself, what I believe in, what I stood for, etc.
Every once and in while I will catch a wisp of something that takes me back to a life long ago lived. I will hear a song that puts me back to a specific day and memory. I will come across a TV show and remember when it first came out and I watched it.
I have been fortunate to have had, during my life, great loves. And, whether it was the 1960's, the 1970's, or today love is a beautiful and cherished thing.
Take care and may God bless you.
