Review of Kurt Cobain HBO Documentary "Montage of Heck" (by Jeff Schrembs)

My prior knowledge, or interest, in Nirvana was limited. Though I knew a few of their songs when I heard them on the radio back in the 1990's I learned more about Kurt Cobain after he (sadly and as "reported") committed suicide via drug overdose.

I recall seeing a picture of his little girl and I felt genuine hurt for her knowing as she got older she would have many issues to deal with, internally and externally, throughout her life.

Additionally, at the time I thought about so many talented - one of a kind entertainers - who passed away either by their own hand or by accident.

Recently I came across the HBO Documentary of Kurt Cobain entitled "Montage of Heck". I garnered some insight, and facts, about him from the time he was a child up until he passed away.

I always knew that the members of Nirvana were gifted and exceptional musicians but I learned how deeply talented Kurt Cobain was as a songwriter. I also learned of his demons and his addictions.

I found the documentary to be very good sans the cartoons. But I wished that there was more input from the band members of Nirvana while understanding that this special was from his families perspective (i.e. his mother, father, sister, wife, etc.).

There was one song towards the end of the documentary of Nirvana onstage playing "in the round" which aired originally on MTV (back when they were an innovative source for music videos and diverse singers, songwriters, and/or bands) titled "Where did you sleep last night". It was a profound song with soulful firsthand emotions. The words paralleled an event in the lives of Kurt Cobain pertaining to his wife's potential "one time thought about committing adultery".

A common theme throughout the documentary was how sensitive he was. Though this is a trait found in many entertainers, poets, creative people, and often in everyday people.

This documentary is entitled as "the most intimate documentary ever" which, in my opinion, is hype nonetheless when the credits rolled I found myself having a renewed respect for Kurt Cobain as well as bookmarked, on YouTube, two songs by Nirvana which I am sure to occasionally listen to.
