Game of Thrones returns April 12, 2015
HBO's stellar production of "Game of Thrones" returns for a new season starting April 12, 2015 and I can't wait. While this series is one of fantasy the cast is exceptional and the storylines compel one to tune in and then impatiently wait another week to find out what happened and what is going to happen.
For a series to have it's powerful, and extremely well acted, characters killed off routinely it is so well written that each proceeding episode is compelling on it's own.
In other series killing the main characters would be a "jump the shark" moment but with the skillful writing of George R. R. Martin Game of Thrones never drops off. The story lines are vast and interesting to say the least.
Games of Thrones had me addicted to it, to paraphrase the words of the successful Tom Cruise movie said by his talented female co-star whose name escapes me, at the word..."Game".
I would very much like the opportunity to read the books, that the series is based upon, authored by George R. R. Martin but as of yet I haven't found the necessary combination of time, sustained good health, and the actual books themselves. When it comes to books I like them in three dimensions and not in digital form. I may be a dinosaur when it comes to this but for me there is no replacement for actual/physical books.
To find a quality TV program, even in this age of "instant everything", is not always easy. But, I found and truly enjoy the series Downtown Abbey, the Midwife, Masterpiece Theatre, Outlander, Wolfhall, Mr. Selfridge, etc.
One of the "common threads" of these quality programs is that many of the actors are from England. I don't know if American actors' talents have been diluted or that English actors are just plain "better" but there are noticeable differences in favor of the English actors. Kudos to; them, the writers, the producers, the cameramen/women, the entire production staff and for TV stations (including cable) for their contributions.
Like millions of other Game of Throne fans we will enjoy each episode knowing that when the current series ends it will be (oh to even think of it sways me into a semi-panic doldrum) a YEAR before a new season airs. Hence, we have to enjoy it while we can.
